I overheard Betty tell someone on the phone that she had a model
husband. That sounded good until I saw this definition in the
dictionary -- Model: a small imitation of the real thing. (I'm 5'-5")

Yesterday's newspaper had an article about Martha Stewart in
which she was called "doyenne." I had to check that one with Mr.
Webster. He said, "Doyenne" is the feminine version of doyen
which means, "a person considered to be knowledgeable or
uniquely skilled as a result of long experience in some field of
endeavor." That was a lot better than some of the other things she
has been called lately.

I would say our pastor is doyen, and I hope yours is as well. It is
always a treat to find someone who has honed their particular
discipline to a fine edge -- someone who has taken the rough
outline God gave them at birth and developed into a beautifully
formed sketch for the benefit of others. Shouldn't the end result of
all we endeavor be for the ultimate benefit of others? It seems we
praise God best when others praise God for what they see in and
through us.

If someone develops a skill primarily for their own ego satisfaction
and desires praise to be heaped upon themselves, they are
squandering the tools God gave them. This is especially true if
they claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Romans 12:3 (niv)
offers this thought on the subject: "...Do not think of yourself
more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober
judgment in accordance with the measure of faith God has given
you." Others -- get it, others!
