Righteous, Blameless, Drunk and Naked

Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on the earth at that time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.
Genesis 6:9 (NLT)

At some point in our life we have heard the story of Noah and the Ark. We have seen pictures, imagined a boat full of animals, and marveled at the spectacle. You probably know God was about to wipe out the world. God said there was only one righteous and blameless man living on the earth and he was going to spare him, his family and two of every animal. Imagine such a man, blameless and righteous before God. A man God was going to begin a new world with. Was Noah super human, sinless, without fault or vice? Noah was a man we should probably look up to.

So how did he get here; After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and planted a vineyard. One day he drank some of the wine he had made and he became drunk and lay naked in his tent. Genesis 9:20-21 (NLT) How did Noah go from being God’s chosen to a naked drunk? Noah is human; we have all been where Noah is. Maybe not drunk and naked but we have found ourselves in situations we have had to ask ourselves, how did I get here?

Noah wasn’t superhuman nor was he anything but human. Noah did nothing without the power of God. Many of us have done some sort of wonderful thing only to find ourselves later in a state of disgrace. As we read the Bible we find the only way to become righteous is through Jesus Christ. We must be wrapped in Jesus. Through Jesus we can be forgiven and forgiven more than once. Without Jesus we lay exposed, our sins wide open for all to see. Reach out your hand let Jesus lift you up and wrap you in his righteousness. Know that all Noah did was through God and on his own he was but a man. On our own we are but men and women.

It is only through Jesus Christ we can become righteous and blameless, without him we are drunk and naked.
