Psalm 119.61
The way of deliverance
"The cords of the wicked have encircled me, but I have not forgotten Your law" [Psalm 119.61 NASB]
David's situation here is similar to that which Samson faced when Delilah had eventually betrayed him. David was trapped in straitened circumstances but he still submitted to the word of the Lord. Whatever we are facing, the Word of the Lord is not bound.
Samson, who had been reliably informed from childhood that God had called him until it was a settled truth in his heart, also knew, admittedly later in life, the severely restricting influence of the enemy.
David had also known the calling and the anointing of the Lord. The concept of the anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage is a recurring theme in Christian circles today. But it is good to remember that there are different administrations of grace and power for various tasks within the body. For example, Samson had the anointing for deliverance to free Israel from the grasp of the Philistines and David had the Psalmist's anointing to compose songs as well as the kingly anointing to reign.
Before we were born, God had richly given us everything we needed to accomplish what He desires. This is why we are to avidly avoid coveting another man's ministry and to be content with what we have. Just as He did with Samson, God knew what He was planning to do with us before we were born. Satan cannot access the eternal counsels of God but he persistently tries to trip us up and then entangle us so that we are unable to do what God had planned. However, even in the midst of darkness, confusion and strongly binding restrictions, neither Samson nor David forgot the teachings of the Lord.
No matter how difficult and depressing our situations are, there is only so much the enemy can do, for God has set his boundaries and he is more restricted than we often think. Conscious of this, David rose at midnight [Psalm 119:62] and praised God for His word - and at the darkest point in his life, Samson also prayed [Judges 16:28].
Be at peace. For all you know, there may have been tremendous joy in heaven and on earth at your birth. God knew at that time what He was going to accomplish through us and regardless of the machinations of the enemy and our own limitations, this is the time to stand firm and praise Him. If you are bound in any way whatever, deliverance is at hand. [David McArdle]
