Here’s a common ‘why I don’t Evangelize’ excuse:

“I’d just be evangelizing out of a works mentality, so I’ll wait until I’m doing it out of pure love for Jesus”

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Joh 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

To obey Jesus is not a “works mentality” but a “love mentality”. The Word of God clearly teaches us that to love Jesus is to obey Him. So if you want to live out of “pure love for Jesus”, then do what He’s told you to do, stop making excuses and go and witness to the lost.
What is commonly understood as a “works mentality” is the attitude that I must work to earn my salvation, or to earn God’s favour. The Word of God makes it clear that faith and obedience are what pleases God (Heb 11:6 & 1 Sam 15:22). So the person who believes God’s Word regarding evangelism, and obeys it is demonstrating the purest form of love for Jesus, rather than any kind of “works mentality”. What you’re experiencing is the reluctance to be a witness by your flesh, and the devil’s feelings and thoughts to stop you from shining the light of Christ, but the Bible teaches us not to follow the flesh. The flesh never got anyone saved, it just acts as the servant that follows the love that Christ has placed in our hearts for our fellow man, make it obey the Word of God today and know that when you go, no matter how you feel, you really do love Jesus.
