Submissive and sanctified

“This is my good fortune, for I have observed your precepts” [Psalm 119.56]

Even with the best of intentions, we will occasionally make the wrong choices, and when we finally realise what we have inherited, like Abram with Ishmael, or the effects on other people, like Hagar with Sarai, we try to avoid all responsibility, like Abram did when he had complied with Sarai's wicked suggestion [Genesis 16].

What is actually behind this wrong decision and accompanying attitude? In the majority of cases, it is a matter of an un-submissive and unsanctified will.

Regardless of how people responded to him, where he was or what had happened to him, David had decided not to turn away from God's teaching. Consequently, no matter how long it took, David always came out on top.

The man who has attached himself to the word will always triumph, for the One who gave the word is now reigning on high.

However, remember, the way to the throne was submission to the will of God [Matt. 26.39]. It eventually paid great rewards, but it cost the Lord everything. [David McArdle]
