Always be attached.

Today I done something called tree walking. When you tree walk you are literally are walking in the tree tops. What they have is a board about 10 inches wide supported by cables that run through the tree tops at about what appeared to be 75 feet in the air. Now there are 2 cables that act like a rail to sort of help you to keep from losing your balance, but death would be certain if you slipped or fell sideways. To protect you though you are in a harness that has two different safety ropes with clips attached like the ones that mountain climber’s use. The rule is to always be attached at all times to the overhead cables. I have to be honest that at first I was very reluctant to do this because heights has never been one of the things that I enjoyed in life, in fact I am scared of heights. As a young boy and man being raised on a tobacco farm I had to hang tobacco against my will of course, but I did it none the less out of fear of getting a worse beating from my Dad if I failed the task. But this tree walking was different though it brought back many memories of a couple of falls I took from the top tier poles of a tobacco barn.
But as I looked over the way everything was rigged up I realized that even if I slipped and fell, that I would not hit the ground and die or be injured. Oh, yes my pride would have been hurt if I had slipped and had to be rescued but I would not have died. As you went from one section of trees to the other, you have to unhook one clip and then hook it to the cable around the next tree, but you always left one clip attached or hooked at all times this way you would always be protected from falling and you would not hit the ground if you slipped off the plank or board if you will.
Isn’t that the way we are supposed to be with our Father God and our Savior Jesus Christ, we should always be attached to them. Yes it is true that we are bound to slip and fall from time to time in our walk through this life, but if we stay attached to the word and the promises of God that we will not die but have everlasting life. There was a point about half way that I sincerely wanted to get off and get my feel back on solid ground. But I knew that it was best to keep moving forward and not back up or give up. Over the years I have fallen off the plank of life many times and yet God was there to keep me from hitting the bottom completely. Yes there were times that it felt as if I hit rock bottom but I did not because I am still alive today.
My wife made this trip with no problem at all, in fact there was a moment when she was having fun and dancing on the plank, and it made me mad because I thought she was trying to make me scared and make me look bad, but I later realized that she just felt comfortable with her walk on that plank. This gave me some answers that I had been seeking lately, what was I afraid of ? failing or falling in the eyes of my wife and kids and my family; falling is not the problem it is not being protected when you fall that is problem. My wife has such great faith in God because she walks through life the same way she walked that 10 inch plank today 75 feet off the ground, she just acted like it was another walk in park; like her feet were on solid ground. In fact her feet is on solid ground with Christ, my own walk has been one lately of feeling unattached to God the Father and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, but now I feel like I am attached again and can face the world head on and that if I slip or fall, I will be attached and protected from hitting the bottom.
