"LORD, my heart is not haughty,
Nor my eyes lofty.
Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me." - Psalm 131:1

"Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it." - Psalm 139:6

I have always been perplexed by the verse in Psalm 131. Why would David seek to avoid wonderful knowledge. It seemed he avoided pursuing the deep things of the Lord.

I am starting to understand why.

There is something alluring about pursuing such things. It might lead to pride concerning knowledge (1 Corinthians 8:1-3). If one is nurturing a relationship with the Lord they will soon see that they know nothing compared to Himself.

Yet we often lose sight of that, do we not? I know I have. I would have to admit the intent was to appear spiritually deep. Even writing that looks as it is: foolish.

I do not write this as a confession, though it is. I always intend to write to encourage because the Lord has shown me something. If I do such things, someone else probably will as well.

So why share? The reason is simple. It only should come from the wonder of coming to know the Lord. It may be from that sense of wonder one should be moved by that exuberance to share with others. It should come from a child-like sense of awe.

Deep things are really nothing except that they only support the basic truths of the Biblical God, like His holiness, infinitude and love for example. Real deep truth always takes us back to the beginning, especially to the cross.

This write is taking me back there now, praise God!
