"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." - Romans 12:3

"And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God." - Philippians 1:9-11

I need knowledge and discernment as the Philippian verse states, so that I can embrace the excellent. This is to approve of the excellent and to discipline myself toward the same, be it a Christian, employee or other things like a writer.

The verse from Romans encourages that I be sober, clear-minded, serious. The verse gives the reason why: I have "a measure of faith." My faith as a believing Christian has limits because I am human. The Lord does not expect me to do beyond my human limits. Beyond that is the Lord Himself. He continues where I pathetically fall short. I remember getting saved because I fall short.

For the sake of excellence I seek to improve upon my writing, especially because of the message I want to convey-the Gospel of Christ.

As one who is part of an imperfect race of beings I seek to excel because scripture commands it. It also tells me that I must realize all I do will fall short. The Lord looks at faithfulness to His word as the reason for reward. He never looks for ability but availability. To Him that is success. Jeremiah was an excellent prophet that no one listened to. To us he appears as a failure. To the Lord his faithfulness marks him as successful.

I will write something understanding it will fall short. All I have written has been edited to a point, then I leave it alone. My repertoire here includes both my successes and failures for all to see.

Weeks, months or years later I may revisit the subject in another composition. I am sure it will be better because of my desire to excel as a witness to the Lord. But it will always be evidence to my frail humanity, therefore a testimony to God's grace.
