I traveled alone
Through the dark and lonely streets of my youth,
With nothing to mark the passage of time
But a seemingly endless string of colorless sunsets.
With a broken past I was loath to remember,
And an uncertain future I feared to embrace,
I wandered aimlessly through the shadows and mist
Of the directionless days.

Suddenly, in a burst of pure and brilliant color,
Like fresh air rushing through a door opened for the first time
To a damp and sunless room…It washed over me.
In answer to the silent prayer of my desperate heart
He stood there surrounded by light and music,
Filling in an instant all the gaping holes in my soul…
Healing all the infected wounds of my spirit

In that first miraculous moment I knew
That He was the One;
Though it took time for my disbelieving heart
To surrender completely into His tender hands.

But He never left me…He just waited patiently
For me to see the glow of His light.
And though the menacing trees
Of my forest prison still surrounded me,
He worked lovingly on the path
That ultimately would lead me to freedom.

I dance in that Light now,
Though I trip over my own feet
And get lost in the shadows now and then.

But in my heart I know:

That His music is the music I will always dance to
And His light is the light that will always lead me home
