I heard a sweet new Voice tonight;
A gentle whisper of truth carressing my soul.
But louder still was the roar
Of he who will not release me.

He roared with laughter knowing he had me,
Knowing that the Voice was no match
For my baseless fears and senseless anger,
That it could never cut through the chains.

In anger I exploded as if in obedience
To my unrelenting and unwelcome master.
Cursing, bellowing and flailing against the darkness
Until, exhausted, I turned in shame
To find the whisper replaced by a sigh.

Oh, how He must weep at all my foolishness,
My ears unable to hear His pleading,
My eyes blind to His wonders.
And I drenched with His sorrow can only curse the rain.

Wake up! Open your eyes!
Can you not see that you are drowning
Reach for the Hand that is held out for you
Let go the one that is dragging you under.

Dance on the waves with your Fisherman Brother.
Come touch the hem of His love
Come and become healed, whole and holy
And allow Him to lead you where your heart longs to go.

"He does not want you!" the roaring accusation counters.
"Your anger, fear and weakness sickens Him." he laughs.
But another Voice replies, "Come as you are. Little Brother
Though your heart be empty and your sins be many. Come."

And suddenly a new hope rises where hopelessness reigned
And with it a roaring and cursing "NO!"
And then I felt his his grip loosen and with it
The fear and anger that had ruled my emotions for so many years

And as his roaring disappeared into the distance
And the fear and anger drifted away
I thought I saw a dove descending
And I ' m sure I heard the rushing of wind.
