Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday September 21, 2010

Email is a laugh a minute. My mother, 96, and in a nursing still receives email from outfits committed to health. These outfits being fully aware of Mom's advanced age word the ads much like this; "When using our food supplements you will enjoy the full benefits of Edenic Nutrition. You will feel as though you are 70 again."

Oh, the joy. They still promise that I will feel as though I am 16 again. Scary, they have no idea what I was like at 16. (Those of you, who do remember me, hush).

Dr. Tom Hall, a long time friend encouraged me with this:

"Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing."

Have you pondered this? Scary, especially if your shelves are overflowing with health food. I personally attribute my fantastic health to large cups of very strong coffee and Hershey Bars. Some sort of chemical activity I guess.

Have you considered the problems caused by "dying of nothing?" Several members of our church work in the Health/Hospice industries. One of my men is a janitor in a local hospital and he knows more about medicine than the entire staff; at least to hear him go on about his expertise. Not one person to whom I have spoken with the exception of one girl who works independently with the dying and she said they would have to put on the "Death Certificate" cause of death: "Natural Causes." She said "Natural Causes" is a pseudonym for, "We don't have a clue."

I wonder if it has ever occurred to people, especially we of a spiritual bent, that dying is unnatural? Prior to the fall of Adam, humans were designed to live and enjoy God and each other for ever. Because of the entrance of sin through curious disobedience, death entered, for God in His mercy knew man would get more miserable with age and without the release of death would cry out day and night for deliverance. (Men get more miserable with age comes from the Great Blonde). Through Christ's death and resurrection we who know Him now have the promise of eternal life at a higher level than was originally planned for Adam.

Treat the physical with respect and care for we are told not to willfully destroy it, but to understand the importance of the new birth through faith in Christ.
