Maybe I have a few gray hairs
Maybe I'm not as trim as I was
I may not be as fast
and may have a few miles
on my tires of life
But my dreams and
my love of life
is just as it was when
I was young, only better
I have seen and experienced many things
But what I have which age
can never take away
is love of life
love of people
and learning something new every day


Reflection

It’s a fact of life that we all we get older. I have heard the phrase,” senior moment” when we have a hard time forgeting something. As we get older we lose people that are close to us and many times our body won’t do the same things it did ten years ago.It can be depressing and many people follow that path.
I would suggest another path. I visit my mother who lives in a independent living senior program. I have noticed how people adapt or don’t adapt to getting older. Some become bitter and depressed and it’s as if they have given up while others show an appreciation for the life they had and the life they have now. They also seem to have a peace which I find inspirational.
They tend to find pleasure in the small wonders of life and are able to see that we are all brothers and sisters of humanity. Not only are they nor afraid of dying they are actually looking forward to tr. Not in a dreary way but almost as if they are excited.
I think we can learn much from them, and not only deal with getting older but see it as a blessing. When we show down and don’t work as many hours we begin to be able to notice all the beauty and joy around us. We appreciate our friends and family and we are mindful of how wonderful life is.


Where do the birds fly

going on their way?

Are they looking for something?

Perhaps a safe tree

or something to eat

They sing a song

of peace and delight

Their song penetrates my heart

The gentle song of peace

We can learn their song of love

Singing our own song of peace
