Driven

I felt so cold inside, like when the winds are blowing after the harvest. My head is spinning, knowing full well what I am about to do is wrong! Yet as if driven by an unknown force I walk and run toward my destination.

I know I should turn around and terminate this plan, idea, and deception. But I can’t there is something I cherish more than life itself because it gives me life.

As a child I had to go without it and regretted everyday and everyone who kept me from it and all that I felt I deserved, all that was rightfully mine.

After all, the teachers said that prosperity was a sign from God that you were in good standing. So the more I got the better I was, the Godlier I had become.

So why was I so conflicted? This was just another deal. An opportunity had presented itself and being the business man that I am I made the deal. I deserve it after three years of following, working and listening this is my recompense.

I’m here, I reach for the door. My heart is pounding, part of me saying turn back, the other is saying “How brilliant you are.” I push the door opened, all eyes turn towards me. My business counterpart each had a sinister gleam in their eyes, yet I kept going, drawn towards them like a magnet.

The voice shouting, “Turn back! STOP!”, was drowned by the thumping of my heart, and the erotic excitement of the deal.

When all was said and done I held 30 shekels of silver in my hands.

I was 30 shekels richer but I felt as if I had lost everything. Reason returned, I had been drunk with the passion for money and in that passion betrayed all that was good, all that was honest, all that was truthful.

I betrayed my Lord and lost my life.
