Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday August 25, 2010

Over the years I have invested more than a little time trying to figure out life. I really give up. Investigating eternal life is more rewarding in that it is all about God's marvelous grace, while life on earth, for the most part, is all about seeking some sort of revenge. I visited the website of my pastor from years ago; Dr. Tom Wallace and found this on the Humor link:

"When my three-year-old son opened the birthday gift from his grandmother, he discovered a water pistol. He squealed with delight and headed for the nearest sink. I was not so pleased. I turned to Mom and said, "I'm surprised at you! Don't you remember how we used to drive you crazy with the water guns?" Mom smiled and then replied, 'I remember.'"

Our family curse was more to the point, "Larry, I hope you have twelve kids just like you and then you will know what you have put me through." These words of grace and mercy are the ones my sainted mother who used wire hangers often repeated. Tragically for me, her wishes have been granted in part. Not that we have twelve kids, or as the politically correct insist, children. Most people have kids, snobs have children.

I know, I know, kids are baby goats. Please know that children are more like baby goats than the people who are sans children, but write about them may think.

In spite of the fact that children grow up and have children, we older folks understand that there is not enough vengeance in the world to ever even the score for all the dirty tricks our children pull on us. Grandmother giving the grandkids water pistols is but a mild way of getting even. What if Grandmother comes to live with you? God forbid.

The thrice married, father of several children and refugee from the Plymouth Brethren, Garrison Keillor said concerning children:

"Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. They seem not to notice us, hovering, averting our eyes and they seldom offer thanks, but what we do for them is never wasted."

Dr. Clyde Narramore said, "The best thing a man can do for the children is to love their mother."

Jesus said in, Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Over 50 million children have been denied this blessing via abortion.
