Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday August 4, 2010

Writing and ministering via a daily internet article involves not only writing and inserting HTML and the loading for emailing, but often a mountain of correspondence each day. I truly enjoy the work, so this is not a complaint. Recently in corresponding with a young woman around twenty five years of age, in response to one of my advice pieces made a statement that is nearly unheard in today's helter skelter world. To say the statement is strange is to put it mildly.

For the sake of this letter I will call this young woman simply, Rhonda Marie. Certainly not her full name. Here is her statement:

"I will be sure to practice admitting I am wrong so that if I marry I will make a "Tremendous" wife."

This statement of intent is at least dynamite in today's Women's Lib world. I use a pseudonym for her safety's sake.

From an old fashioned Christian perspective the young woman is right on target as to learning how to be a "tremendous" wife. I just hope no supposed enlightened modern gets to her and ruins her thought processes. In the course of trying the encourage this girl, Joyce and I have learned several important things about her that should make her attractive to a young well balanced Christian man who may be a little unsure of marrying a strong woman, as this girl has already stated she is practicing admitting wrong. I know a woman who has been married 46 years and has never under any circumstances admitted such an earth shaking thing as "I was wrong."

We also learned the girl is committed, not only to Jesus, the Bible and clean living but excellence. One of her life goals is to live long enough to out sprint her older sister and she assures us that she is putting forth an Olympic effort to accomplish this. The family thinks they should have named her Josephine as she, in their opinion is dreaming.

She is self employed so there is some semblance of the Proverbs 31 woman which for several millennia was the epitome of sacred womanhood.

In this day when most young women are setting their hooks for a millionaire, Hollywood type, or a hunk, here is a girl who by her own admission is "practicing to be a tremendous wife." We are living in strange times that try men's souls.
