Obedience is the virtue most liked by God. It is the first step of faith. God said, “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.”(Exodus 19:5). Whoever obeyed Him sincerely was rewarded and raised to greatness.

God says through Jeremiah, "But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you."(Jeremiah 7:23)

Ten people who obeyed Him

1) Abraham
God blessed Abraham abundantly since he believed and obeyed God.
"Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curse thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran." (Genesis 12:1-4). Even at his old age Abraham believed and obeyed God and his descendants were blessed through him.

2) Noah
Noah accepted God's warning and obeyed Him. God "saw the wickedness of man" and warned him. "But Noah was pleasing to God." He was "blameless among people of his time, a man who walked with God."(Genesis 6: 8-9) Since he was obedient to God his family was saved

3) Hagar, the Egyptian maid
Hagar obeyed God and was blessed through her descendants. She was promised, "I will so increase your descendants, that they will be too numerous to be counted" (Genesis 16: 10)

4) The prophet Elijah
1 Kings of the holy Bible explains how Elijah obeyed God without any murmuring and was saved from the cruel hands of his enemies.(1 Kings 18)

5) The obedient servants of Cana
When there was a crisis at the wedding at Cana, the servants of the house of wedding obeyed the commandment of Jesus and saw the change of water into wine. Jesus said "Fill the jars with water. And they filled them to the brim."(John 2: 7) The first miracle of Jesus was the result of obedience.

6) Peter the fisherman
Peter was a fisherman of experience. He knew through and through about the availability of fish in the sea. Though things were adverse he obeyed the word of the Lord and witnessed the miraculous haul of fish. "Jesus said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon replied, Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will lower the nets." (Luke 5: 4-5) He obeyed and was rewarded.

7) Obedient disciple Andrew
The two fishermen brothers Simon and Andrew were casting their net into the lake when Jesus called them to follow him. They obeyed and were blessed for their sacrifice. "Jesus said to them,
"Come, follow me, and I will make you fish for people." At once they left their nets and followed him." (Matthew 4: 19-20)

8) Joseph who obeyed God
Joseph was obedient to God and was blessed to be the foster father of Jesus. "When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do" (Matthew 1:24)

9) Mother Mary who obeyed and brought redemption
Through her obedience Mary became the mother of God and brought redemption to the whole humanity. Then Mary said, "I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said." (Luke 1:38)

10) Obedient Jesus who was raised to life
Jesus was obedient to the will of God. He was obedient to his parents Joseph and Mary. His obedience brought us all to liberation. "As the disobedience of only one made us all sinners, so the obedience of one person allowed all to be made just and holy." (Romans 5: 19)

"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."(1 Samuel 15:22)
