Suppose you were raised by Christian parents who attended church regularly. Suppose it was a denomination that believed it was “correct” or had the “true understanding.” What are the odds that is right, that only your parent’s church is the “remnant church?” Wikipedia’s article entitled “List of Christian Denominations” states there are “reported to be approximately 38,000 Christian denominations.”

The major categories are listed below. Among Catholic groups it lists Latin Rite and Eastern Roman Catholic Churches, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, Assyrian Church of the East and Anglican Communion. Among Protestantism it lists Pre-Lutheran Protestants, Lutheranism including 65 kinds of Lutherans, Anglican Churches including 41 kinds of Anglicans, Reformed Churches, Presbyterianism including 42 kinds of Presbyterians, Congregationalist Churches, Anabaptists, Brethren, Methodists, Pietists and Holiness Churches, Baptists including 98 kinds of Baptist denominations, Irvingite Apostolic Churches, Pentecostalism including Assemblies of God and Church of God and 51 other Pentecostal groups, Charismatics, African Initiated Churches, United and uniting churches, Quakers, Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement including Church of Christ, Southcotties, Adventist Sabbath Keeping Churches, Non-Adventist Sabbath Keeping Churches, Sunday Adventists, Sacred Name Groups, British – Israelism, Latter Day Saints including “Prairie Saint” denominations and Rocky Mountain denominations, Oneness Pentecostalism, Unitarianism and Universalism, Bible Student Groups, Swedenborgiansim, Messianic Judaism, New Thought, Syncretistic religions incorporating elements of Christianity and Esoteric Christianity.

What are the odds that the one group you grew up in is the only correct group? About 1 to 38,000 – do you really want to bet on those odds? How open minded do we all need to be to the leading and the guiding of the Holy Spirit? With nearly 38,000 different ideas of what God is like and how we ought to worship Him, we all need to very humbly ask for God’s leading and guidance. Every group you talk to is very persuasive as they explain why they have the best understanding of the Almighty’s will. Only God can lead our lives in the way He wants. How else could we possibly know the truth as we open the sacred scriptures? We need God’s direction.
