Now
Moses
was
tending
the flock
of Jethro
his
father-in-law...
And he led
the flock....
to Horeb,
the
mountain
of God.
[Exodus 3:1]
**********************
(Moses.)
"Can I put my
SHOES,
back on,
NOW?"

[LORD.]
"NO."

"But.......MY FEET HURT!
I GOT BAD ARCHES!"

[CALMLY NOD.]

"And......this SAND IS HOT!"

[ANOTHER NOD.]

"Ain't WE FINISHED,
YET?"

[PATIENT SIGH.]
[SHAKE HEAD.]
"Uh, uh."

"BUT, LORD!
I CAN'T DO ANY OF
THIS STUFF !"

"What stuff,
My child."

(Grimace.)
(Put hand to stomach.)
(Feel a cramp.)
(Look around for
the nearest bush.)
(Unfortunately,
the only one around,
is burning......and,
burning.)
"All this STUFF,
Y'UR TALKIN'
ABOUT,
LORD!"

[CALM NOD.]
"Ah,
yes."

"WELL?
CAN I GO,
NOW?"
(Look up,
hopefully.)
"MY FEET ARE
REALLY KILLIN'
ME!"

[FIRM VOICE.]
"I said
no,
My Moses."

(Woeful grimace.)
(Try to back away
from Burning Bush.)
(Trip over small rock,
in the hot sand.)
(Clumsily drop staff,
on big left toe.)
(Lean over to pick up staff.)
(Moan, from a sudden
lower back pain.)
(Drop staff, again:
this time next to Sifv'kah*,
the sheep.)
(Sit down, and
put scraggy head,
in both hands.)
(Loud moan.)
(Sifv'kah comes over,
and nuzzles other big toe.)
"But.........LORD!
WHO am.....I?"

[WISE NOD.]
[PAUSE.]
"Who
AM
I?"
************************
What
shall
I say
to
them?
[Exodus 3:13]

______________________
*The rest of the
flock was afraid to
go all the way up
Mount Horeb; they
all stayed near the
bottom. Sifv'kah
was the only one
with enough hutz'pah**.
**Yiddish: nerve.
