God asks us to wait for him. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord” (Psalm27:14)

If we look at the term ‘wait’, we ca get the proper meaning why our Lord wants us to wait. It is from the Hebrew verb ‘kah-wah’ meaning ‘to twist, stretch’ that the vivid picture of this word emerges. The noun form means ‘line, cord, thread’. Now we can get the picture of what means by ‘wait’. It describes the making of strong, powerful rope or cord by twisting and weaving ourselves so tightly around the Lord that our weakness and frail characteristics are replaced by our Lord’s power and unparalleled strength. It describes very literally the truth of what has been termed the ‘exchanged life’. As we wait on our Lord, our weakness is changed for his strength.

Strength and courage are developed only during a trial, not after it is over. Hence we wait on god during our trials knowing the weakness and meekness of our frail nature.

God lifts up all those who waited for him with hope.

That is why Mary sings, “He has looked upon his servant in her lowliness, and people forever will call me blessed. ..He has put down the mighty from their thrones and lifted up those who are downtrodden.”(Luke 1:48, 52)
