Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday June 23, 2010

It seems that no matter what some people do or how they do it pleases everyone. You would think the people of Sweden would be rejoicing or whatever it is Swedes do when there is something to celebrate.

A few months ago the man who would have been a future king, Carl Philip broke up with his "acceptable" girl friend and took up with a Reality TV Star who had posed topless with a Python in a Mag. No such suggestive foolishness with Victoria who will ascend the throne at the passing of her father. The rather traditional Victoria married her former personal trainer Friday past, 06/18/10. She is Royalty; Daniel Westling is what the Swedes are gently calling a Peasant. This is a dream story for the lover of alliteration; "Peasant Promises to Pamper Princess."

Predictions of marital failure flood the media. After all consider the difference in background, social standing, her royal linage and his ordinary (Peasant) social experience. This says nothing about the vast financial incompatibilities. I would assume Victoria brings much more moola to the kitchen table at bill paying time. Having been married to Royalty for near 46 years I can assure you that one Prince Daniel, Duke of Vastergotland will need the grace of God to rise to the occasion. Yes, I am admitting that I married above my station. I am often (daily) reminded of this. Hush to the GB.

To be certain background, cultural exposure all play a part in marital happiness. But. I am thankful for the buts in life. But, the teaching of Christ and the Bible lets us know that where we are going is more important than where we have been.

The Archbishop of the Cathedral where the marriage ceremony took place is upset because Victoria insisted on her Father, the King walking with her down the aisle and presenting her to Daniel. The Biggity Big Bishop stated that this represents a backward step for women's liberation.

The traditional ceremony if I recall the why of the Father presenting the bride to the groom is steeped in biblical symbolism in that we are clearly taught in Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; from which normal minds gather that marriage pictures the groom as Christ and bride as the church, made up of those born again people who are a gift from God to His Son, Jesus Christ and in the earthly drama of this joining together the husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church, meaning a sacrificial love.

I wish Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel the best. I suppose a Prince Daniel tobacco may soon hit the shops. And stock in a certain "Secrets" company may be a good idea.
