A life of continual trust

“Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it” [Psalm 119.35 NASB]

Unlike David’s prayer, God's ways are not often automatically the first choice we make, as much as we don't like to admit. And if we are honest, we will also acknowledge that very often they are not our second thought either.

Therefore, David said, "Make me walk in the path of Your commandments." Why? David may have come to the conclusion, based upon his own experiences, if I do not have divine help, I will probably choose the wrong path. Has this also happened to you? It has to me! Very often, at a time of external trial and prolonged inward testing, we are left to our own devices and we often make the wrong - and as it so often turns out - disastrous choices.

Is there a solution to this situation? Yes. At this time, David was relishing and rejoicing in the realm of answered prayer. He had, previously asked God, to enable him to keep His teaching with all his heart. And here he exclaimed with joy, “I delight in Your commands.”

Do we delight in His commands? When we do we will be in good company, for both the Lord and His servant, Jeremiah, delighted in God's commands.

The enemy will often attempt to get us to take our eyes off of God and place them on ourselves, … and then, we will get engrossed in and obsessed with what we are doing in the sight of man.

As strong believer’s in God’s sovereignty and providence we need to remember that He knows what we can take and whatever He entrusts to us – He administers with wisdom, gentleness and love.

When we meditate on the life of the Lord, we often see that a lot of what God permitted to enter into the holy life of His Son we might regard as unacceptable, but God turned it all around for His glory.

God will, if we will trust Him fully, bring both His good and perfect will out of every situation, regardless of what we thought at the time.

For example, the Lord was, as Isaiah revealed, “A man of sorrows”, and now, He has entered into God’s eternal joy, where there is no more sorrow.

Regarding our complicated, unacceptable and very often difficult situations, David had proved that, “… Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.” [Psalm 30.5]. [David McArdle]
