Overcome evil with good
Mom was such a strong lady, able to keep her composure most of the time, even in the face of great difficulty. Mom and others suffered much at the hands of dad. Dad hurt many people physically, one time he beat my mom up with a hammer, causing her to lose her baby [that son or daughter is with mom in heaven today]. Dad went to jail, yet mom having the gift of mercy, felt sorry for him and bailed him out. Most people felt she should have left him there, but not mom. Mom always told me to overcome evil with good, and she practiced what she taught. Mom went above and beyond forgiving him for he did to her. Every evening mom would bake his favorite pie and make him a lovely dinner. Mom held no bitterness and always presented a sweet, kind and gentle spirit even to him. Mom was an amazing lady. Mom left a legacy of good examples to follow.
I remember her telling us how he hurt her and many other people and yet mom continued to show him love and forgiveness. Not easy to do, impossible if she were not placing her complete trust in God to work things out, and he always did.
Mom’s gentle, yet strong spirit was a great example of following what the Apostle Paul said in Romans 12:21 be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good with good. A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up ange.. Love covers a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8 and above all things have fervent charity [love] among yourselves: for charity [love] shall cover the multitude of sins.. Mom would always do good to whoever hurt her.
Prayer: LORD help me to be like mom was and love others and forgive them the way you said we should and the way she did. In your name amen.
