Prosperity Gospel

I’ve seen it a lot, but I still can’t understand how preachers can say that if you will just pledge $100, or $500 – God will bless you financially. I understand that God is good, and that He rewards both obedience and sacrifice, but the problem I have with this type of giving is it’s motivation.

We weren’t moved with compassion for the poor. We haven’t been urged by God to help those dying and on their way to hell... No, what this preacher is really saying is that he wants us to make an investment in "God’s work", and the return will sufficiently compensate us for our inconvenience. He’s offering us a business deal in the name of the Lord – and using God’s Word to justify our selfishness.

God honors a lifetime of giving – not a moment! God sees the intentions of the heart – and cautions us to give freely, cheerfully, humbly – never expecting anything in return. Oh, yes, God does promise to bless the giver – but he never said that He would match a one time gift – $2 to $1, as some of these preachers claim.

I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t fall for these prosperity gospel teachings. Live your life the way God wants you to – giving all you can from the blessings God bestows upon you. If you’re having trouble meeting needs, turn to God’s wisdom, not man’s. Listen to the Lord’s voice – and don’t let a mere man convince you that God‘s got an angle!
