A Second Chance

Only to see the blue
Through the grey steel so cruel
Only to hear the talk of men
About what they did not wrong
Instead your creation with song

Only to think that taken
Unspeakable thoughts in the making
My time not my own
Heavy doors, cold floors
To be free from these walls

So much hardship, so much despair
The only clothes of my soul to wear
Are the thoughts of guilt and shame
Fighting not to drift, instead to float
The storm not longer out there, but in the boat

How can I face those I hurt?
The person in the mirror so full of dirt
The only way is to stand
Forgiveness and truth I seek
As I wait for the grace from the meek

A second chance to live
Forgiveness I long for, mercy you give
Despair is turned to hope
See the blue skies, hear life on the outside
Now to start is the healing on the inside
