It was the night of love
When a new commandment was taught.
To love as He loved us,
To serve others; lay down one’s life,
God’s glory revealed through His Son.

It was the night of the Last Supper
When a new Passover was lived.
The Bread of Life; the Cup of Blood
Given and poured out for all mankind.

It was the night of promises
The Way, the Truth and the Life was known.
The anticipation of the Holy Spirit yet to come
The Real Vine in gladness shone.

It was the night of prayer
That none would be lost.
That all would be one
Just as the Father and the Son.

It was the night of agony
When Jesus prayed
In the garden of Gethsemane.
Anguish tearing at his soul
Sadness and loneliness overcoming him.
The bitter cup of suffering
Looming large.

It was the night of shadows
When the Son of man was betrayed
For thirty pieces of silver coins.
Arrested and tried
Denied and condemned.

It was the night of all nights
When the Savior spent his last one on this earth.
