It should be to convey the gospel outside the church walls. Not the pussyfooting, don’t-upset-anyone, let’s-be-liked version so common now, but the real gospel.

People need to hear the message as preached by Jesus and also in the early church. (Read the Book of Acts). Their message contained hell, sin, the blood, the cross, repentance, full-immersion baptism. Plus of course the goodies so beloved of today’s preachers—heaven, the blessings, Jesus the unseen helper, the love of God, the creation of God, but not [Oh Lord!] Jesus will expand your bank balance.

The first six topics in the previous paragraph are generally omitted today. John the Baptist preached only repentance, but we seldom hear the word now. Jesus told everyone unless they repented they would perish-eternally! We must tell the public the truth of what Jesus said—that without Him as Saviour a person is condemned and the lake of fire is their destination.

Mountains of dollars are spent today on meaningless TV ads which tell nothing of the gospel. There is one advert here in Australia (at peak times) which shows God’s creation—the sea, clouds, sky, lakes etc, but the ad merely says God created it all. Most people know that! Almost everyone vaguely believes in God. They should be told about Jesus, His great salvation and how to get it. If the TV stations won’t agree, then boycott them and use another method.

We must stop being mice-like Christians, but instead have the guts to tell it like it is, always with the love and concern for humanity that Jesus showed. No courage to do that? Read 2 Timothy 1:7.

There is a vast, broad, worldwide misconception about Jesus, how important He is. Especially in the rich, got-everything western world. Life is easy, and people just don’t understand that Jesus will be their judge and jury on the day they stand before Him.

At funerals we hear speeches about what a fine, upstanding person he/she was, and references to heaven. Without Jesus as saviour the deceased won’t be in heaven if they have never repented; never made a decision to follow Christ; never put their trust and faith in Him. That is the plain, simple, awful truth. The whole world needs to know that.

Educating the general public is where church boards, ministers, pastors must put their money and time. Why do we sit in the church and fiddle like Nero, while not just Rome but the whole world is burning—or about to?
