A Letter To Lucifer

Oh, Lucifer, thou angel fell
Who hunts, pursues and hounds so well
To steal my joy, to steal my peace
Determined so to never cease

I've seen your smile amidst my dreams
Bearing gifts or so it seems
You tempt with riches, rewards untold
But all that glitters is not gold

In times long past, I've fallen prey
To your sinful, sultry way
Taking pride in sin and self
To leave my Bible on the shelf

I've known the pleasures which you treat
And found them all so bittersweet
I turned my back on all you deal
And chose a path on which to heal

And now I stand here, whole again
Healed by a Saviour I call friend
Friend and brother, Son of God
Leading me where angels trod

Setting sin and self aside
Along this golden way I stride
Away from old internal strife
And taking up eternal Life

Looking back, I say to you
"I've gone a way you can't pursue
I command you, leave alone
That which you can never own"

So saying thus (and said so well)
And having told all I've to tell
This letter it is time to end
And seal this note and then to send
