There is no turning back now. There is no mistake worth repeating. Albert Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Do you believe that there is validity in his statement?

Alright, okay, I'll concede that you can go back -- but is what you return to ever the same as you remember? The world turns forward and grows older. Change is in effect, even if it is only subliminal to nominal. I've seen those who keep going back expecting to relive past glories and loves. Ultimately, I've see the pain of frustration on their faces -- as "back" wasn't the joy and fulfillment that they expected. Many words sound so much better being left unspoken, as most of this life's events are better left as singular events not to be revisited. Memories can comfort and soothe if the present day is a misquito-ridden, briar-hewn landscape populated with hungry wild things lurking behind every rusty abandoned 2-door compact that had been stripped for parts. But, don't you think that memories are best left as memories?

Are a thousand yesterdays better than one tomorrow? Indeed there are seminal moments where children took their first steps and spoke their first words. These are fond places that are often captured through photo or video to be replayed to the heart's content. There are parents and grandparents who are now gone and the words and images that remain emblazoned on our minds can be at once melancholy and then strength-giving.

Maybe today is a party-on rock-n-rolling good time with great friends and nothing could be better than the here and now? Well, party on and enjoy and say to heck with the past! Where tomorrow is concerned, you'll deal with that ornery cuss with its bed head and morning breath when it tip-toes into your bedroom and pours cold water onto your face, all while yelling "good morning" with its raspy buzzsaw voice and rattling lung congestion. Just beware of what tomorrow and its sneaky too-early morning might hack-up on you.

In the middle, to the left of yesterday and its wistful melancholy and to the right of getting your party on -- in the middle of all that is the terra-firma under your feet. But, how firma is that terra? You are humanized Silly Putty being pulled in both directions and you could snap apart. Where are the hands that can knead those broken pieces back together and get you rolling forward on solid ground?

You can't go back in time. As well, your beguiling periphery can leave you stressed, depressed, and utterly messed. Additionally, drifting and swaying side to side will lead to stumbling off of the edge where the panting wild things drool in a feverished, famished anticipation. Don't look back, because behind you the road is strewn with dead roses, dilapitated Dodge Darts, and broken hearts.

Onward...

There is a new road and a new song. There is a true word and a life lived more abundantly. These things don't keep you standing out in an uncertain rain, ringing yesterday's doorbell while suffering tomorrow's pounding headache. Instead, someone stands at your door and knocks. Do you hear it? If you hear his voice and open the door, he will come in and dine with you, and he is bringing the life-giving, life-sustaining food and drink that will fuel you forward on what is now a journey to the city of gold that is clear as glass.

...But the journey has only begun.

I loved you vivid descriptions. I don't want to see anything hacked up on me. You gave me quite a bit to think about, along with a few smiles and an occasional eew. Good job.
