How often do we forget God’s promises? My late husband and I served on the Navajo mission field. God tested our faith.

When we left on deputation to raise needed support, I worried about clothes for my little girl? I had made all her clothes myself, but I could not take my sewing machine with me. God wanted me to trust in Him. He knows all our needs.

The churches gave us nice clothes that fit Lynette. God took better care of her that I did.

We came back from deputation. We felt led to move onto the Navajo reservation. An Indian lady offered to let us park our blue bus on her land. She charged no rent, and we had no utilities, except our five-gallon propane tank, and cylinders for our propane lamp.

The chapter, the local government, agreed to let us park our bus for one year. Now our year had expired and we lacked two signatures for a church lease site. In this case an unanimous vote did not help us.

We had moved onto the reservation with about half of our needed support. Without any incoming bills, we skimmed by with no trouble.

Because we failed to get a lease, we moved into a trailer court. We lacked full-support and did not have the $80 space rent. This situation perturbed us. The first month we sold our VW Bug.

Now that money was gone, and soon the rent would be due again. Does God care about displaced missionaries? What were we going to do?

Before we had to come up with the rent money, a tourist came by. "Where can we park our mini-home?" he asked Leon. Leon showed him and he handed him $20.

A friend of ours worked in Black Mesa Mine above us. He came by and asked Leon to work with him in the mine. This netted the remaining $60.

Another month rolled by. We arrived at desperation point when an $80 check came in the mail. The Bodine Baptist Church in Oklahoma City had decided to take us on as their missionaries for their Daily Vacation Bible School. We had not heard from them since Leon preached there about two years before this. Once again God proved His faithfulness to us.

"Thank you, Lord," we said as our summer of financial trials drew to a close.

When we trust God, He will provide. Let us continue to rely upon Him.

Oh God, Thank You for providing for our needs. Help me to keep trusting you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
