We will have our way;
we’ve no need for God.
In our pride we stay.
The Spirit needn’t prod.
If we lose the fight,
in our minds we’ve won.
We declared our right,
living with no Son.

When the end is past,
and everything is gone.
Our vote was cast;
we have lived for none.
We have won our flesh
though the Spirit’s lost.
We’ve resisted Christ,
not even counting the cost.

We’ve resisted Christ,

Clear away the dust
and leave us our desire!
We will keep the rust
while we gain the fire!
We have stated our case
though our soul has lost.
