When we are really alone is not when we have moved to an island or locked ourselves in our apartment; it is when we are in a crowd and no one notices our despair. It is when our problems have become so massive that there is no way to escape except to die. Unfortunately, dying will not solve our problem, it only makes matters worse. You leave your family and friends wondering how this could happen and how they could have helped and when you wake up from death, you find that you are alone in the dark and worse off than you ever were in life.

Every day hundreds are in such despair that they commit suicide; why are they led to such a decision? Some have come to the point where they feel they cannot take one more step in life because everything has gotten so far out of control. They have no one to confide with and feel no one cares whether they live or die. Often this is not true because their family does care, but a desperate person feels so unworthy and pressed down by the weight of whatever it is they have done that they believe no one could or would forgive them so they just keep everything inside hoping that somehow it will all go away.

As a Christian who has lived a double life, we can cry out to God; and yet, He seems not to answer and we stay in the blackness of our sin unable to come out from it. We cling to the hem of His garment even though we believe He is walking away and ignoring our pleas. We feel unworthy of His forgiveness and beg Him to glance our way – just one little glance so that we can feel some hope in our situation. Every step away from God led us to this point and with every step there was a way to escape, but we did not take it. We knowingly walked in sin, it was our own fault and we can blame no one else; why should God forgive us and bring us back? Why would He?

“And such were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God,” (I Corinthians 6:11).

Even a fallen Christian still belongs to God because Jesus died for him/her. Granted, no Christian should ever find themselves in a position where they are so enveloped in sin that their testimony is ruined and they have lost all hope. We say that a person who is living in sin never was saved; but if that person was a Christian and lost their way (like the prodigal son), the Father would forgive and welcome him back. If the person was never saved and repented, the Father would also forgive and welcome him as His child.

As Christians, we are quick to judge what others seemingly are in our eyes and don’t look at them with the Love of Christ. We have no idea what that person has been through or how hard they fought their temptations before finally falling. We can be thankful that God is there for them even in their despair and loneliness. Because we know this, we also know He will be there for us should we lose our way in our walk with Him.
