The Prodigal Son returns
read Luke 15:11-24
Why did this kids dad give him his inheritance early?
I think that this kid thought the same thing we think when we are getting ready to go out on our own, This town sucks, there is nothing here for me, the people are boring, there is nothing to do and my Parents KNOW NOTHING!! I have to get out of here. There has to be more for me somewhere else. So he pestered his dad until his dad had had enough. even though his dad knew what would happen, he gave him his money and let him go. His dad knew he would be back, he knew he would most likely come back feeling defeated and without the money his dad had worked all his life to make, but that was a lesson the son would have to learn on his own, he would not listen to anyone who has been through it before him because we always think we are smarter, stronger and things will work out for us. So the Son left. off to a fun town, He thought he was the big guy in a fun town!!! He partied, he lived the high life. All the pretty party girls wanted to party with him, all the popular guys were hanging out with him and his money.Eventually his money ran out, he would show up at a party and the same people who couldn't wait to hang with him no longer knew him, they moved on to the next lost kid with party money. So here this kid is in a town that no one really knows him, no one who loves him, no money, no food and no shelter. He did find one friend after he lost his money. There was a pig farmer that let him into the field with his pigs and he would run as fast as he could to get as many husks to eat before the pigs ate it all. Now that's Hungry. What to do? There was no work because of a famine. He was so ashamed that he had wasted the money his dad had worked so hard for. Would his dad even take him back in? All the people who tried to talk him out of leaving will never let him live this down, but if he doesn't go back he will starve and die. So with a deep feeling of guilt and feeling pretty stupid he headed home. He felt unworthy to go back and be the son he was before, so he would ask to be an employee. When the dad saw him walking up the driveway, he ran to him, hugged him, kissed him because he missed him so much. The son felt horrible and unworthy of his dads affection and love. He told him how sorry he was and begged for a job. His dad told him no matter where you go or what you do you will always be my son. I love you and I forgive you no matter what. Lets celebrate!! My son was lost but now he's found, lets have the biggest block party we ever had. Do you know that Jesus celebrates when we come back to him? Jesus said in luke 15:4...
4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
If you were like the prodigal son and walked away from Father God it's not to late. He is waiting to throw a heavenly party, a celebration because you came home. No matter what you have done since you walked away, he wants to forgive you. He wants you to come home to him. If you have never had a relationship with Jesus Christ, he has been waiting for you. He loves you so much he died on the cross for you. Wont you ask him into your heart? He's waiting for his child to come home to him.
