ARE YOU A CREATOR OR THE CREATED FOR? FELIX OBI



There are two major people groups in the World: the agonists who cause things to happen, and the second group include those who either watch from the sidelines or criticize the agonists. Their only contribution to the World and their generation is their passivity, which never attracts an accolade or reward. Agonists are like God;” they are “Creators” while the other divide are the “Created For” who sit around the amphi theatre of life! They cannot generate the powerful force that initiates creation. Hence they choose to be entertained by the music from the orchestra of creators!



It takes constructive but forceful effort to create something and anything. God must have mustered so much of divine energy and resources to reshape a hither to formless world. Realizing that light was not existing from the beginning, he had to dispel darkness by forcing light to blaze forth (Gen 1:1-4). He used the unwanted (darkness) to create the wanted (light). Thus darkness (e.g problems) serve as useful raw materials in the creative process of life. In essence, the presence of darkness helps us desire light and appreciate its esteemed value. Hence, the seeming contrasts we face daily are important agents that should not be discarded completely. Problems are actually raw materials!



One major fact about creation is that it is characterized by nomenclature. Creators set a

precedence. God gave all that he created names. Creators are trend-setters in any field

they engage in. Bill Gates revolutionized the IT world and Henry Ford, the automobile

industry. A creator may die a biological death, but the world he created, and the

accompanying name lives on. A benefit the by-standers of life are unworthy and unable

to get!



Creators influence a paradigm shift. Carl Marx nearly ruined the world through his socialist ideologies. Albert Einstein’s equation penetrated the domain of atoms. A novelist creates a fictitious world of people, places and events which appears real in the mind of the reader. The picture so created influences the reader holistically. Think of James Hadley Chase novels. Think of the broad-chested, round-shouldered, tall, handsome and blue-eyed guy of every woman’s dream. Hey! He lives only on the pages of the romantic classics of Mills and Booms! Thus the created for is coerced to live in a fading world of fantasy and mirage.



Creators live fulfilled lives. Those who create music (composers, singers and musicians) enjoy music much more than the listener who is rather entertained. The musician first plays for himself before the audience enjoys his/her skills. It is more rewarding to patent a trademark than be the ultimate consumer. As it is more blessed to give than to receive, so is the creative person” more honourable than the one who watch things being created. So where do you belong: The created for or the Creators?

YOU’RE WORTH MORE THAN RUBIES - FELIX OBI



Self esteem or self worth is a common denominator used in personality analysis and ranks so high in the psychologists hierarchy of needs. We all love to be treasured; cherished and valued highly by people we meet and interact with. Often times, we get so conscious of how we are valued or perceived by others or where we come from that we even lose our self worth.



Generally speaking, some people inherit an apparent high sense of worth due to a peculiar family background, with high socio economic status. For some others however, they have to really sweat it out in the labour rooms of life to have or acquire a sense of esteem through education, career development etc. The over-dependence on what others perceive of us is out rightly unhealthy inspite of the fact that people serve as the looking glass through which we see a lot about ourselves.



Low self-esteem is a syndrome with many symptoms, among which are inferiority complex, sense of inadequacy, lack of confidence, repressed fears, inability to express one’s feelings or opinions, etc. low self worth stifles creativity, the maximization of potential, deployment of talents and ultimate fulfillment in life. It crushes the essence of humanness!



If we accept who are (without apologies to anyone) and take pride in ourselves, then we are progressing in the ladder of self worth. Many people dislike their family backgrounds, colour of their skin, the shape of their nose, their height, their ethnic lineage etc. But these are traits or facts of life they only inherited. Many have had to undergo plastic surgeries for cosmetic reasons (to be acceptable) without any palpable change in their self-worth. The cure for this malady of negative thinking is not far-fetched.



When one realizes that he/she is a special creature on earth, it then becomes impossible for him/her to be boxed in by what others think or feel about them. Thus a Blackman with a high sense of worth will brush shoulders with others from advanced economies without looking or feeling inferior. He will walk with a spring in his steps. He will refuse to be classified based on socioeconomic or any other parameters. What a misfortune of creation to say one is worth may be a billion dollars – a mere medium of exchange!



No currency can equate anyone created by God. So you are a rare creature, specially designed, crafted, packaged and empowered to live and function by God, because you are worth more than rubies.
