on the pillow.)
"I just had another
bad dream, Lord."
(Loud groan.)

[GENTLE NOD.]

"That's all Ya
gonna SAY?"

[SILENCE.]

"Why don't Ya
DO SOMETHIN'?"

"I AM."

(Half-closed stare,
up at the ceiling.)
"LIKE WHAT?"

[PATIENT FROWN.]
"Who AM I,
child?"

(Sigh.)
(Louder groan.)
(Roll over, onto the
cat.)
(Loud meow.)
"The One.....Who
GAVE ME..the BAD DREAMS?"

[TENDER VOICE.]
"No,
My child."

"The One Who......
gave me all sorts'a
TSORIS*?"

[CHUCKLE.]

"Then, WHAT?"

[SOFT RUMBLE.]

"Aw, come ON,
LORD! I'm in a
bad MOOD!
I just....WOKE UP!"

[PATIENT PAUSE.]
"Who are you
speaking to,
child?"

(Squinty frown!)
(Cranky shout.)
"THIS AIN'T ONE
'A THOSE PARABLES....
IS IT?"

[CHUCKLE.]

"Ya KNOW,
I'm always....CONFUSED,
in the MORNING!"

[CALM VOICE.]
"Listen to Me,
child."

(Crankier shout.)
(Cat jumps off the bed.)
"WHAT?"

[QUIET VOICE.]
"That is your
joy,
My precious."

(Even crankier shout.)
(Loud meow, accompanying.)
"WHAT, LORD?
WHAT?"

[TENDER VOICE.]
"Listening,
to
Me."

You have
turned for me
my mourning
into dancing;
You have
put off
my sackcloth
and clothed me
with gladness,
To the end
that my glory
may sing praise
to You
and not be silent.
O Lord my God,
I will give
thanks to You
forever.
