Well scripture says that we are accepted in God’s kingdom when we put our trust in God & Salvation (saved) is given to us purely through GRACE when we repent for our sins. What I am trying to say is that the people in the Old Testament (before the time of Jesus coming) were saved through faith in the Messiah to come. I have mentioned some supporting verses from the Old Testament itself.

Genesis 15:6
Abram put his trust in the LORD, and because of this the LORD was pleased with him and accepted him.

Psalm 119:41
Waw Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise;

Psalm 119:123
My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.

Now if you see salvation and was not given to them, right then at that moment but they were promised it, which means it would happen in the future to that time. The time when Jesus would come and pay the penalty for all sins & as you see from the first verse the people of the Old Testament were accepted by God because they trusted in God’s promise & that is how they were saved.

Yeah, one more thing this man to whom we owe our Salvation, also happens to be God. He had to come as man because only then he could suffer and die like a man & he is God because only God can be our Salvation (save us). I have mentioned a supporting verse below again from the Old Testament.

Psalms 27:1
A Prayer of Praise The LORD is my light and my salvation; I will fear no one. The LORD protects me from all danger; I will never be afraid.

Finally, I would like to say that even though God gave the people of the Old Testament the instructions for animal sacrifices for sin, God was only giving them an insight that their sins would be cleansed through a sacrifice that would happen sometime in their future. God was just trying to show the people through their own experience that there would no sacrifice that would be as perfect as that of his Son, which would happen in their future. God was never pleased with animal sacrifices.

Psalms 40:6
You do not want sacrifices and offerings; you do not ask for animals burnt whole on the altar or for sacrifices to take away sins. Instead, you have given me ears to hear you,


Psalms 51:16
You do not want sacrifices, or I would offer them; you are not pleased with burnt offerings.
