Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday November 12, 2009

My book, "Lasting Friendships In 30 Days" is doing well for which I am thankful for friends who have bought copies. There is a possibility the book will really get a boost, but that seems to waver like the sea in a hurricane. The book is a very helpful elixir for relationships, even marriage. Life is more pleasant if your spouse is a friend rather than an enemy.

The making and keeping of friends involves much time and the use of numerous skills and a certain openness on your part to invite people into a front seat in the theater of your life.

Commenting on this, a long time friend, Bob Spence, sheriff of an adjoining county said,

"Invite your audience carefully, not everyone deserves a front seat in your life."

Have you ever considered that when a person invites you to a true friendship they are in fact permitting you to not only sit in the front seat of their life, but with the seat comes the viewing of actions that may affect the relationship negatively, that what is secret to mere acquaintances is an open 3D video to you?

One of the more painful experiences is for a friend whom you have trusted with a front seat in your chosen audience to jump up and excitedly rush to the local "Barbara Walters" and spread special secrets with the passing crowd thus subjecting you to gossip wolves to be mangled in full view of God and Man to say nothing of Woman.

An unknown writer said it this way:

"The fickleness of friends hurts worse that the fierceness of enemies."

An important factor to carefully consider when inviting others to your "audience" is the way they handle current friendships. It they talk to you about others, they will most definitely talk to others about you.

Usually when you invite someone to your chosen audience, they return the gift. Keep in mind the kind of friend the Lord expects you to be. Proverbs 17:17:

"A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."
