I hope today is different, I really do. Anytime I feel remotely happy lately....the happiness gets taken away, as soon as I receive it. I locked my door, and walked down the street. The cold crisp air and the beautiful orange sky made everything perfect. My friends have been on my mind lately....but what Ive been thinking about makes me depressed. Can I call myself their friend if I watch them fall? Don't say anything when they make a wrong decision? Do nothing, say nothing, and continue to watch them destroy their lives. Maybe today wont be so perfect after all. But what kind of a friend would I be if I stopped them from having "Fun"? I just act like I don't know whats going on in their lives, that everything's okay. But I know everything's not okay. Could I have stopped Jake from drinking that night? Maybe he'd still be alive if I did. The guilt cluttered all around my heart as I stopped walking.
"You know what Jontae....you did the right thing." A voice I was too familiar with said.
I turned with a look of disgust on my face.
"I knew that today wouldn't stay perfect." I said.
He just look at me with his dim ruby eyes, and smiled.
"You should be proud that you let Jake have the most fun he had before....well you know he died. I mean you just sat there knowing he shouldn't and you let him. Bravo Best friend of the year award goes to you!" He joked.
The truth was it was my fault, i could have prevented it, but I didn't.
"Jake I'm sorry." I said under my breath.
"I mean honestly what right do you have to tell other people they shouldn't be doing something? Let them live life Jontae, let them have fun while their here." He said handing me a bottle.
I looked to see a vodka bottle in my hand, black tears flowed from my eyes.
"Now its your turn to have fun." He said his eyes glowing brighter.
Everything went silent, and everything around me darkened, echoes of my sins bounced around in the dark. Suggestions of things the World wanted me to do were whispered into my ear.
"Just give in! You'll never escape temptation! Its all around you! From the moment you wake up til you fall asleep! It will always be there, so you better get used to it! Cause you are too weak to resist and you know it!" The World shouted at me.
5 of the Worlds nasty burnt hands appeared in the darkness, wanting me to drink from the bottle. A person came out from the darkness....it was Jake. His eyes glowing a Dim ruby red like my counterpart.
"Jontae just do it, dude believe me you feel a whole lot better." Jake assured me.
I looked at the bottle then looked back at him.
"No Jake...I should of stopped you when I had the chance, but I didn't and I'm sorry...but I'm not going to follow the path you did." I said dropping the bottle.
Jake slowly dissappeard, and so did the darkness. I looked at the broken pieces of glass and in the glass I saw a man smiling at me. I quickly turned around...but nobody was there. Eh I'll count today still as a perfect day.
