CLAY?"

[SMILE.]

"And.....Ya know;
a piece a' schmutzy
JEWISH clay...

(Shrug.)

[GAZE.]

"I seem to upset
people,
with my writing,
Lord."

"Yes,
child."

"They think I'm
not being reverent
enough,
or humble
enough,
or some such other,
enough....
so...Ya know.."

"What,
child?"

"I'm not gonna
talk to You,
so much,
anymore."
(Nod, firmly.)

"Why,
child."

(Thoughtful gaze
at the wall.)
"I think...."
(Shake head,
dreamily.)
"I think..."
(Sigh.)
"That can a' beans,
is just too big,
Lord."

[GAZE.]

"Between
You,
and me;
it's too big.
There's too much
muddy water,
under the bridge,
and all the stuff,
inbetween."
(Glance away.)
(Throat getting
a big lump.)

[SILENCE.]

"I heard too much
stuff: about the
concentration camps,
and the ovens,
and the horror,
and all,
when I was a little kid..."
(Shake head.)
"I just got a bad
impression of You,
is all."

[LISTENING.]

"I always thought..
You hated the
Jews,
with a PASSION."

[LONG SILENCE.]
[PAUSE.]
"Yes.
I do feel
something,
child.
With a
Passion."
