Dear Lord,

There will always come a time when winter will gave way to spring
And the cold, dark nights will turn into bright, warm days
The raindrops of gloom will cease from pouring from the clouds
In place will be the sun's nourishing rays.

Now is the season I have come of age
Just as the canary hums a sweet song to attract
Another bird to be with him to make a home out of his nest
I ask for the ideal mate to stop in my tracks.

I am not at all concerned
With his complexion or his physique
But along with a sincere smile and courtesy in his speech
There must be something about him that is exquisitely unique.

I do not require that he possess
The intelligence of the bards and sages
But he should understand that he must have knowledge
To hold a job and earn his wages.

I do not want him to squander his time
In the company of wine and folly
He must devote himself to the things that are lasting
And keep his ways righteous and holy.

His character must be precise
His integrity, lacking of flaws
He must love You above me and above all else
Just as You commanded in your written laws.

Let him have the wisdom to abide by his father's rules
And the prudence to heed his mother's counsel
If he will practice humility and kindness beyond our march to the altar
I will never be a distressed damsel.

He must be a lover of all men
But not necessarily of their wicked ways
Before striving to accomplish a great feat
Let him kneel before You and pray.

If the young man and I are indeed destined
To meet and engage in a principled romance
Provide us with the fortitude to control ourselves
Before temptation readily takes its chance.

Let him be the one to ask for my hand
If his heart and intentions are noble and true
And we will live our lives with Christ as our foundation
In Jesus' name, this I ask of You.
