Here lies a bunch of fine and experienced actors
Making merry on a stage
One played the role of a gallant knight
The other is a celebrated sage.

Another one wore a police officer’s badge
The next baked delectable apple pies
Still another held needles and thread
And sews and knits as time flies.

Once they were asked, “Which one of you,
Has the most spectacular role to play?”
And after much thought and soul searching
This was what they had to say:

“Each of us represents
A certain kind of task or trade
And we know we’re all equal in the good Lord’s eyes
Because we’re fearfully and wonderfully made.

“It never mattered what work you were called to do
Whatever it is, do it well
Pour your heart into it and water it with passion
If you did a good job, God can tell.

“Work not for the fleeting acclaim of men
And desire not just the monetary reward
Let your trade be an expression of what you really are
Work smart, not hard.

“As you retreat to your humble place called home
Towards the end of a busy day
Nothing can fulfill you more than an accomplished task
Work that is enjoyed will seem like play.”
