Not the endless words we read and write, but THE WORD of God. Have we failed to recognize its power? Listen to the Hebrew writer, "For the Word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and open before the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.: Hebrews 4:12,13

In the words of Jesus as recorded by John, "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life." John 6:63

When we think of words, we usually think of the words we speak and read, but neglect to notice the vast difference between those words and the powerful words of divinity. They don't just hang there; they are living and active. Living? Active? Yes, there is a sharp difference between our words and those spoken by deity. Ours die with the speaking, but words that issue from the Lord never lose their power to instruct, quicken and yes, to condemn. There is a heaven and earth between what men say and what God says. And God said about Jesus on the Transfiguration Mount, "This is my beloved Son. HEAR him."

The words of Scripture are more than literature to be read, memorized, recited and enjoyed. They pack a much bigger wallop. They are divinely-powered, divinely-spoken, and meant to spur us to action like the words of men never can. They will translate into lives pleasing to God. They are perfectly constructed so that when followed, success is assured. God understands human hearts as no man ever can because He made them. The instruction to us, if followed, guarantees the stated outcome. No human author can ever claim that. Let's listen closely to, and follow very carefully, these set-apart words. We need to heed them as we do no other.
