Worldliness and Healing

As I was pondering the age-old question of why some seem to get healed and some don’t, I sensed the Holy Spirit talking to me. He told me that sickness is the fruit of worldy ways or worldliness, but His Spirit gives life. Oh, the implications of that statement that I do believe has scripture to back it up.

As I was praying for a person in the past I was told by the Holy Spirit that He could heal any person at any time and at any place, but why do it? If after they are healed, whom will they serve? I friend of mine had a similar word years ago when praying for healing for a person. The Holy Spirit told them; “But will they serve me?”

Our walk with the Lord is all about total surrender to Him and His will. Jesus even said that He did not come to do His will but the will of the Father that sent Him. You may say well that was Jesus. If we are truly crucified with Christ and it is Him living in us the same would still be true. Who are we serving? Are we still trying to build our own kingdom or are we trying to be obedient to His voice and build His? When we follow after our desires and wants instead of seeking God’s desire, then we are following worldliness. In Isaiah Chapter 30 and 31, we are told that anything other than listening to or following God’s Spirit is rebellion. We often do things from a carnal fleshly motivation rather than seeking God’s will and what He wants to say or do. Each of us have a ways to go as far as being in the world but not of it.

If our priority is to hear and follow the voice of the Lord, then it will be much easier to believe that God will heal all of our diseases. Why would God heal us so we can go live for self or commit some grievous act? To what advantage is it to His kingdom? God does often heal people to get their attention and show them His power. Even that does not guarantee that they will live for Him and become obedient to His will alone.

Case in point, the Lord healed my mother from cancer yet she refused to acknowledge that the Lord did it. She stayed in her carnal mind, living for self and not acknowledging or accepting Jesus as her Savior. Eight years later she got cancer again, yet she then acknowledged the Lord and was born again. She eventually passed away with cancer. Was it God’s will that she died of cancer? I do not believe that it was. Had she acknowledged Him at that time that she was healed, I do not believe that she would have ever seen cancer again.

Scripture says:

Joh 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Mt 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Mr 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Joh 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Ro 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Ro 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Ps 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Really the bottom line is this. Who are we living for? If we live for self, then we will experience many tough things. If we live for the Lord and our deep desire is to follow Him in all ways. We will experience the life that comes from the Holy Spirit. It is our choice.

Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
