1 Samuel 3:1-10
And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli.
And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord where the ark of God was and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
The Lord called Samuel: and he answered here am I.

And he ran unto Eli and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

And the Lord called yet again Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, here am I for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not my son; lie down again.

Verse 7:Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, here am I ; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord hath called the child.

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, and lie down: and it shall be , if he calls thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth.So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
And the Lord came and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel.
Then Samuel answered, Speak; Lord; for thy servant heareth.


The Bible insert above shows that God speaks and in various forms too!

Maybe you think this is an old Testament fable or one of those stories in Bible times and are not applicable anymore especially in our so very CIVILISED time!
On the contrary, God speaks all the time if we take time to search through the Bible from the old testament to the new, He spoke to and through various people down the generations and still speaks today through His prophets and those who are called by His name(that means YOU and I!).
To mention but a few of those who heard regularly (and some once in a while) from God: Adam, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Noah, Lot, Jonah(Even the FISH in Jonah's time was not exempt, remember the DONKEY also in Balaam and Balack's case?), Elijah, Elisha, David, Jehoshaphat, Esther, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Habakkuk, Mary and Joseph(The Parents of our Lord Jesus Christ), John the Baptist(Cousin of our Lord Jesus Christ and the one who was sent to proclaim Christ's coming), Elisabeth and Zachariah (John's parents), the Disciples of Christ, Apostle Paul and many others.

The Lord still speaks and because he is the same today as he was yesterday and shall continue to be, he speaks to us giving guidance, encouragement, correction, instruction and offering His strength in this world of continual chaos and tribulation.

Some still hear Him like the days of old on a regular basis today, because they let His Temple in their lives remain, unpolluted, undistracted, PURE and HOLY continually.

Some do not, because of environmental, family, social and fleshly distractions. The prophet Eli was described to have laid down in his place (spiritual slumber in a comfort zone?), his eyes were dim and could not see properly (spiritual blindness too?), then SAMUEL the one to take the mantle (Note verse 7 of the quoted Bible text) had not been tutored up until this point which should not have been the case as he was left in God's house as promised by his mother Hannah to serve God forever.

The Computer, the Television, the Radio, the Telephone and all other numerous gadgets of the modern and CIVILISED age distract us from enjoying the sort of fellowship/Relationship that we are entitled to, our so very busy schedule from wake-up till bed-time keep us so occupied and dog-tired by the end of 24 hours that we end up not giving Him a thought and eventually not even seeking to hear from Him by the end of that day in addition to getting a word for the following day to come.

Day-by-day, month-by-month, year-by-year always the story remains the same as the years roll by and we eventually return home to meet with the Lord, when He shall say, thou good and faithful servant….', or otherwise.

Are you too busy, too distracted to stay still for a moment and listen for that STILL SMALL VOICE or even that very obvious pointer that shows or tells you what the Lord is speaking?
Have you been so engrossed in the affairs of your life to give Him a thought and enquire of Him what the next step should be?

We are all guilty and it is just one of the numerous strategies of our combined enemy in this times to keep us as IGNORANT as possible about who we are and how we can assert our authority against him and all his evil network of demons and emissaries on assignment in our midst, especially in the church (like the proverbial growing together of the; wheat and the Chaff!)
Do not feel isolated in this case, find a godly supportive arm and wise listening ear to encourage you run this race and regain what has been lost or about to be.
Affirm your faith, turn your life around, renew your relationship and standing with God which will reopen your channel of communication with the highest, take back what has been stolen and hindered for so long.
To get to this level, be willing to set a quiet time aside for communion with Him on a regular basis, take note of dreams, study His word frequently(He speaks often through it too),find time once in a while to 'get away from it all' just to take in nature and the wonder of it, the little details that you normally fail to notice, grant time for this in appreciation of the one who made it all.
