Children

When my children were younger, I tried to teach them about our conscience, or as believers in God, we call it the Holy Spirit within us. The children were two and three years old so I took my time in explaining the conscience within us.

"Kids, do you ever get a feeling deep inside that tells you not to do something or that you should do something?" I questioned as they looked at me with eyes larger than the plates that were holding their snacks.

Once again, I tried another approach and explained it in the simplest form that I knew. "Chaz, do you understand what Mommy is talking about when I talk about the spirit and conscience inside?" My son struggled, circled his eyeballs several times, then shrugged his shoulders. I looked at my daughter and she too had a blank stare on her face.

Making one last desperate attempt to sink it into their heads, I tried another explanation. I asked again if they knew what I was talking about and my son struggled with his explanation which seemed to last at least an hour. As he explained, he twisted his feet, played with his fingers, tied and untied his shoes in nervousness. In the midst of his feeble attempt, my daughter exhale a huge sigh of impatience and quickly yelled, "I know, I know. It's the wittle voice that I don't wisten to!"
