When the curtain falls
At the last applause
And the audience departs,
When the music’s gone
And the final song’s
Just an echo in your heart,
Does the empty feel
Your enjoyment steal
Leaving loneliness instead?
The night flew so fast,
Now the pleasure’s past,
Do you mourn for moments fled?

Life’s reflected here,
Mirrored crystal clear
For all who have eyes to see;
For the prime of days
Will soon fade away,
We’re left with what used to be;
Will we look back then
On what might have been,
Tinged with mourning and regret?
Or summon to mind
The wonderful times
And our miseries forget.

While the stage is ours
Let’s smell the flowers,
Play our part with all our being,
Use gifts God-given
To saints forgiven
To illuminate life’s scene,
Be a sweet incense
To our audience,
Play a part they can’t ignore;
When the curtain falls
There are no recalls—
You have played your last encore!
