Everyone born again knows who Jesus is. That He is the king of kings and the Lord of lords. The Son of God equal with God who allowed Himself to be publicly humiliated, tortured and killed on a cross. Born in a stable and yet, at the peak of His later adult fame, He came into town in the humblest way – riding on a donkey. He is the saviour of the human race and will be their judge.

Yet people generally don’t understand who Jesus really is. To most of the affluent western world He is no more important than the weather in Mongolia. He doesn’t figure in their scheme of things. They are piloting their personal Titanic into the iceberg of eternal death, and few are warning them.

This is the fog of omission into which the Christian church today is drifting and soon will be enshrouded.

To the unsaved, Jesus is just a distant religious figure who is the means to a few days off work at Christmas and Easter. Sad to say, when given the TV opportunity, few of the church hierarchy have the guts to tell the ignorant public how important Jesus is.

They aren’t told about sin and its consequence of eternal death. Hell is an absent word. There is no mention of the blood of Jesus and its awesome power to cleanse the human condition. People don’t understand that without fail Jesus will judge them all, and if their name is not in the Book of Life their destination is the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)

They haven’t heard that Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6) because those who should tell it would rather be politically correct and polite, than be dogmatic, emphatic. We capitulate rather than stipulate. John 14:6 is a statement which Christians must believe as surely as they believe the sun will rise tomorrow. On those words of Christ we must be as unbending as a slab of concrete, as immovable as the Grand Canyon.

Then, having believed it, we must stand upon it and tell the world.

For years we have failed (and are failing now) to tell them. Millions of dollars - which could be used to spread the gospel - dissolve into the bricks and mortar of huge church buildings, with all the associated expense therewith.

As for our time, it goes on meaningless, inward-looking activities such as socials, picnics and barbecues. Like an unsuspecting fox we are enmeshed in the trap of church programs which do nothing to divert the world outside from hell. We spend hours inside a building listening to sermons and examining the Bible, but don’t put Jesus’ instruction (Mark 16:15) into practice.

It will embarrass your pastor to ask him what your church is doing to take the gospel to the general public. He’ll probably mumble something about it being in the pipeline. More likely it’s in the forget-it basket.

Brother, sister, all this has to change. People must know and understand who Jesus is. We are discussing where a person will spend eternity. Heaven or hell. Simple as that. Think about it. Can anything be more important?
