Let’s look at the prophet Jeremiah, in terms of successfulness. We define success as one achieving goals and acquiring wealth. “Successful People” enjoy the good life they have facebook, tweeter, and blog Web sites explaining if not justifying their lifestyle in this world. They are opinion-seeking trendsetters that stride confidently toward the goal of wealth, prestige, favor, and power.

Jeremiah did not fit this pattern and is consider a failure by the world’s standards. For 40 years, he consistently and compassionately served God in Judah. When he spoke, no one listened and didn’t attain material success. But in God’s eyes, he was a success. His obedience and faithfulness in the face of opposition and personal cost, he courageously and faithfully proclaimed the word of God. One could say Jeremiah lead a Purpose Driving Life for the Lord our God.

Take time to read through Jeremiah and feel with him as he agonizes over the message he delivered to Judah. We must continue the pray over our message be it Health Care, Racial Affliction, or our Idolatry with Money. We need to stand firm just as Jeremiah, with those who refuse to respond to the truth and commit to being successful in God’s eyes.
