We stand in a place of choice. The scripture admonishes us “choose this day whom you will serve.” Many changes have taken place in the last few years, the last 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years in our country that have set in motion the current events in our nation. People fear that we will be overtaken by terrorists. It is not terrorists that will take us into captivity, it is apathy, and it is choosing our way rather than the Lord’s way. It is silently standing by while we allow godless men to rule our cities, our states and our nation.
We must remember WHY we were granted grace to become a nation, and reestablish those boundaries and standards. If God wanted us to look like every other nation in the world, He would have given us those directions, but we were established to become “One Nation Under God.” So why have we strayed so far from that vision, and how can we return?
We can study our early American history and remember why people fled their homeland to come to a new land, uncharted, unknown. We can relearn the trials they faced that cost many of them their lives to fight for the right to worship freely and without condemnation by the political power in charge. We can remember that the Separation of Church and State meant that the government would not mandate church affiliation or attendance, and that it had nothing to do with God’s people staying out of the government.
God’s principles are there, written in the voices of many authors, for us to learn from. They are there to teach us how to live lives that glorify Him, in our homes, our jobs, our communities, our governments and our nation. His principles serve as a beacon, a guiding light for us to walk the path set before us.
We must return, one by one, on bended knee, entering into the Holy of Holies of His presence where He will again teach us to walk in His ways. Jeremiah admonishes us “If MY people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, then I will hear from heaven and heal their land.”
We would do well to look at the history of the nation of Israel in the book of Lamentations, and learn from her lesson:
“…She did not consider her destiny; therefore her collapse was awesome.” Lamentations 1:19.
Thank you for sharing this excellent article. We, as believers, are instructed to pray for our leaders so we will live a peaceful life. It did not say pray for them if you like them or if you voted for them...just that we must pray for them. Our nation has changed drastically over the last 50 years, but the scriptures tell us that in the end times "the things than can be shaken will be shaken so that which cannot be shaken will remain"....Our nation is being shaken, however, from where I sit, I see the body of Christ getting stronger and bolder and the world system is also getting bolder and stronger. The scriptures say that we WIN. I believe we are in the birth pangs of Jesus' return to earth....WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE.
