"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God". - 2 Cor 1: 3-4
Apostle Paul was writing to the Corinthians as encouragement to those who might have been depressed at the treatment they were getting from the society on account of their faith. This message is apt for our generation too especially as we aspire to be instruments in the hands of the Lord to bless lives.
The implication of the passage above is that it is a man who has received the comfort of God who can comfort others. It therefore shows that we must have gone through a period when we needed the comfort of God (and we always do) and we can therefore point to our personal circumstances and use them to bless lives that are in distress. Little wonder the Lord takes us through troubling situations! Now we can see that it is not because He does not love us but because He wants to make us an example unto others who might not be opportune to be as close to Him as we are.
I have faced personal troubles in my life that seemed at those times to be overwhelming. I kept wondering why I deserved such treatments. On
reflection it became apparent that the Lord took me through them, as though I was being used as a test material. Just as a popular African proverb says, "if you meet Mr Naked in the market place and he promises to give you clothes to wear, why don't you ask him, what is your name?" A man will not hesitate to accept the offer of clothes from a fully clothed man but he will think twice when a naked man offers him clothes to cover his own nakedness.
If you do not have a testimony of God's personal dealings, how are you going to bless lives? What will you say to them? Quote the Bible? Or give examples of your real life dealings with God? You can only give people what you have and you can better witness based on personal experiences. The ministeree can see you, can feel you, you can feel his infirmities and he can therefore ask as many questions from you as
possible. Now you will be acting as the mouthpiece of God. If the Lord has appointed you as a lamp it means you must be capable of giving
light unto others.
