"He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded." (Proverbs 13:13)
Solomon repeated this admonition over and over in Proverbs. As a person who was promised by God to be the wisest man to ever live, perhaps what was important to Solomon should be important to us. His message: have a teachable spirit. If you refuse to listen, to learn, to accept instruction, then it will cost you. It will diminish your life, bring difficulty and troubles, and will rob you. On the other hand if you listen to counsel, if you heed good advice, if you follow commands, then you will be blessed, rewarded by the LORD. The first applicable command in most of our lives was to obey our mother and father. That should have been the beginning of learning to receive instruction. It is never too late to gain a teachable spirit, and it is never too late to give up a stubborn attitude. Be teachable, be blessed.
